Rather helpfully for us LG have done some research into the British attitude towards apps. As the survey was carried out to celebrate the launch of the new LG Optimus handset (pictured here) we’re not sure if you could use these results to accurately state the British attitude towards apps, but the results do show some interesting trends. As an aside the LG Optimus had better be good, or a certain Mr Prime, the saintly Autobot from the eighties cartoon series (and two terrible live action movies) will be very annoyed indeed.

Obviously the monstrous behemoth that is the great recession looms large in the top result as 25% of the survey’s respondents wanted apps that would save them money. Joint second in the list with 9% each were apps that save you time and apps that help you stay mentally and physically fit. Our gourmand like demand for all things food related is displayed next as 8% of respondents want apps that help you shop for dinner. Gaming for our money is underrepresented with 6% of the vote. Have these people not played football manager 2010 for the iPhone?

This survey shows that the self consciously quirky and supposedly funny apps such as iPint have been given the thorough shoeing that they deserve. With most respondents simply wanting practical apps that will help them in their daily lives. As you would expect there was also some differences between men and women. One in three men would like apps that help them avoid the well known phenomenon of drunken texting and even awkward silences. This compared with 23% of women. To be honest we are surprised that 23% of women are embarrassing themselves as that is usually the preserve of men but we digress.
