Apple iPhone 3G has The Apple iPhone 3G and its associated applications have changed how mobile phones are used and engaged with by the general pubic – in a way which has never been seen before, one expert has advised.

A spokesman for Juniper Research, an organisation that specialises in providing data and news on current trends in the telecoms industry, said the level of impact the device has had has been "quite remarkable".

Windsor Holden, principal analyst at the group, explained that in terms of driving the popularity of the modern smartphones, the iPhone has led the way by offering a chance for consumers to enjoy what has previously been reserved for professionals.

"It has invigorated the consumer market in that regard. If you look now at people like LG, people like Samsung, people like Nokia, a lot of their new phones are based on touchscreen devices very similar or with significant similarities," he added.

The expert went on to say the App Store had "completely revolutionised" access to such downloadable software options and whether it is games, practical facilities or multimedia, this has been successful on "a level that is unprecedented".

According to a recently published study put together by analysts at research group Gartner, the smartphone market saw sales surpass the 40 million mark during the second quarter of 2009.

This figure represents an increase of 27 per cent on the same period last year and reveals a level of popularity that is growing faster than any other area of the mobile market.
