The launch of the new Nokia N900 mobile computer may have been one of the contributing figures to increased annual phone sales in November.
According to British Retail Consortium (BRC) and KPMG Retail Sales Monitor for the month, non-food non-store sales completed via the web, phone and mail-order were 16.9 per cent up on the same period in 2008.
It is not clear from these figures just how well the mobile market performed but with the November release of the N900, consumers had a product based on open source Maemon 5 software to choose from.
On the subject of sales levels, Nokia revealed last week that it predicts mobile device volumes to be up by around ten per cent in 2010 compared to this year’s figure.
During its Capital Markets Day announcement, the Finnish phone manufacturer said that it is aiming to ensure its mobile device volume market share grows in 2010.
As well as the recent launch of the N900, which vice-president of Nseries at Nokia – Jose-Luis Martinez – says has generated "a lot of interest", the phone company is set to release two 3G slider phones in the first quarter of the new year.
The Nokia 6700 slide and Nokia 7230 models have been created "for the design-conscious consumer and optimised for socialising and sharing with those closest to you", according to an official statement. Both phones are said to "make a real style statement".
What phone will you be buying in the new year? You have sure got plenty to choose from!
