The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) has selected the LG KM900 Arena as its Green Mobile Phone 2009/2010, the South Korean manufacturer has confirmed this week.
Equipped with features like Dolby Mobile audio technology, a five-megapixel camera, 40 GB of storage and a three-inch touchscreen, the judges said it was clear that the handset was a high-spec model deserving off attention.
But at the same time, it was noted the phone was also able to boast its very own environmental credentials and stylish good looks that set it apart from a number of its competitors.
“LG’s KM900 … is not only striking in appearance but is also the greenest fully-featured mobile phone on the market today,” EISA said. “Beauty and intelligence combine in the Arena to produce a genuinely green mobile phone.”
In addition, the firm was selected in three other categories for its latest products, the SL8000 was chosen in the Best Value LCD TV category and the Best Value Blu-Ray Player gong went to the BD390. LG also appeared in the Best HT System section with the HB954PB.
The LG-KM900 was unveiled at the 2009 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and was sold as a multimedia device that would form part of the company’s flagship range and come equipped with its award-winning 3D S Class user interface.
However, this week in a post for the CCS Insight Blog, Robert Caunt said a recent incident with an Apple iPhone 3G user had made him think that many people are buying high-profile handsets based on their aesthetics rather than what they can do with them.
