HTC HD mini - is it good enough? The new HTC HD mini is – you guessed it – the latest small smartphone to hit the market and the successor to last year’s HD2.

It was only a matter of time before less bulky and more compact products were going to start hitting our shelves, showing off all the capabilities of top-of-the-range smart devices while sitting comfortably in our hands.

But is the HD mini all that?

Well, according to Pocket Lint, perhaps not.

The design, the website says, is almost faultless, as it “looks industrial, it looks cool and it feels good in the hand.”

Furthermore, navigation of the gadget is easy thanks to popular user interface HTC Sense, allowing you to customise the homepage and “dive into those applications you want without having to fiddle with menus”.

And these apps are pretty good too, it explains, especially the social media ones like Facebook.

However, the reviewer also has a number of gripes with the new product, leaving me wondering whether it’s worth plumping for one at all.

It’s slow, apparently, particularly when loading up videos and perhaps shows the flaws of Windows Mobile 6 – which is soon to be replaced by version seven anyway.

In addition, because of its size, the touchscreen keyboard slows you down when texting and “if you plan to spend a lot of time on the internet, you might want a bigger-screened device”.

Concluding, the website notes “the HD mini has to battle it out to be anything more average”.

So, is it worth it?

In my opinion, size doesn’t matter when it comes to smartphones.

And let’s face it – other handsets, like the HD2 are hardly massive and simply minifying everything will just put at risk the features we love so much about these new breeds of intelligent mobile phones.
