Consumers looking for a smartphone alternative to the Apple iPhone 3G S may be interested in some of the latest handset reviews to emerge online this week.

One option that was considered was the HTC Hero, which Niall Magennis of the Trusted Reviews website said represented a genuine contender to the iconic touchscreen gadget in a number of areas.

In addition to its status as one of the only three Google Android-powered phones on the UK market – with the other two being the T Mobile G1 and the HTC Magic – it was noted that the device was able to offer a level of affordability that the iPhone could not.

“The Hero shows that [Android is] now fully up to speed. Make no mistake, the Hero really is a fabulous phone and its price is very attractive compared to the expensive iPhone,” Mr Magennis concluded.

Elsewhere, Marc Lynde of Mobile Burn took the opportunity to look at the the Motorola A455 Rival this week and suggested there were a number of features it incorporated that may be particularly interesting to “a youthful audience”.

The expert said these include the colour of the handset – which comes in either silver or purple – as well as a 2.2-inch touchscreen display and a 3.5mm headphone jack “that is sure to please”.

Mr Lynde said the mobile was aimed at the same target market as the LG enV3 and Samsung’s Alias 2, but was very much a model with its own personality.
