The networks offering two of the latest Google Android mobile phones have confirmed they have restructured their pricing to provide cheaper roaming charges across Europe.

Vodafone, which has the rights to distribute the new HTC Magic, confirmed this week it will be providing customers with a new deal to help manage international data costs.

As part of its Passport offering, the network explained up to 2.5 million people in Britain could now travel across the EU in the knowledge that for a fee of £4.99 per day they can have unlimited calls, texts and picture messages, as well as up to 25 MB of web access.

For lighter users, data charges will be applied on a per KB basis, as long as the customer is able to keep within the one meg limit – a facility which Vodafone commented could mean emailing from Europe costs around 50p.

In addition, the network’s mobile broadband users were advised they too would benefit from the price restructure. “Laptop users who want to use the internet when they are abroad […] will receive 50MB for £9.99,” Vodafone explained.

T Mobile also confirmed this week that its users – which include those who have taken advantage of the carrier’s exclusive G1 offering – would get access to two new price plans.

Solo 12 month allows 800 minutes of calls across a thirty-day period for £20 with unlimited texts and web access. However, the Solo International option allows 200 of these to be used for making international calls.

Steve Mitchell, head of post pay at T Mobile, said “We introduced Solo in May last year to appeal to the growing sim-only market and have listened to the feedback from our customers to bring new benefits and levels of flexibility.”
