25 May 2010With everyone tripping over each other to write about how amazing Android 2.2/Froyo is going to be we’re perhaps forgetting one thing.
How are the Android phones of 2010 (HTC Desire, HTC Legend, Google Nexus One) going to fare against the iPhone 4G/HD even with 2.2/Froyo running under the hood?
The Germany-based iPhone blog (iPhoneblog.de) has shot a video of an iPhone 3GS and a Nexus One running Android 2.2 running their native web browsers side by side.
The 3GS offers an embarrassingly slicker and faster experience, blowing a bit of a hole in Google’s claim that Android 2.2 will offer the fastest mobile browsing experience out there. At 0:44 in the video you can see the pull and pinch zoom on the Nexus One really struggling.
It’s worth pointing out that this version of Froyo is not the finished product. The iPhoneblog post even mentions that the version of Flash Player 10.1 that is running is a beta and therefore doesn’t reflect the performance of the finished product.
It does make you wonder that if a 3GS can outstrip a Nexus One running Android 2.2 in its current state, how phones with Froyo are going to compare with the iPhone 4G/HD. WWDC is just under a couple of weeks away, so we’ll find out more then.
The video below is in German but it doesn’t matter if you’re not a Deutsch-Lautsprecher, as the visuals speak for themselves.
