An innovative new handset that uses touch-sensitive technology on a transparent keypad has been showcased at the CommunicAsia 2009 event in Singapore this week
The LG GD900 was originally unveiled by the South Korean mobile phone manufacturer in February this year, but has now been displayed for the world to see.
According to LG, the model is the first of its kind to be able to offer such technology and consumers should consider how a laptop trackpad works when thinking about how to make use of the new model.
It was noted the system allows for handwriting recognition and a feature called Gesture Command, where “users can switch instantly among applications by simply drawing one of 12 easy symbols on the Crystal touchpad”.
Dr Skott Ahn, president and chief executive of firm’s mobile business, said the LG GD900 Crystal was just one of a range of “top-of-the-line phones […] based on insights from consumers” that it had launched.
The company also unveiled the details of a new high specification mobile it claimed was designed to be simple to use.
LG’s GM730 boasts the latest version of Windows Mobile 6.1 and combined with the manufacturer’s 3D S-Class user interface, provides an effective way for novice smartphone operators to get used to the technology.
Dr Ahn commented: “Starting with LG GM730, we are introducing a new direction for phones that are smart and advanced but at the same time, user-friendly.”
Other new multimedia phones in the range include the LG Arena, which was launched earlier this year.
