The Samsung Omnia has apparently proved so popular that the latest handsets to be announced by the manufacturer will build upon the device’s branding.

It was announced this week the firm would be launching three new models that would carry on the name of the 2008 multimedia smartphone – and each one would bring something different to the table.

The Samsung Omnia II, which also goes by the product name of the I8000, would be a Windows Mobile 6.1 based entry into the series and would provide an all-round performance that improves on its predecessor with features like a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen.

Also highlighted was the customisable TouchWiz 2.0 User Interface, Resistive Touch technology and 480-pixel video recording. The 3G capabilities of the new model also mean “smooth internet browsing”, Samsung confirmed.

For those who need a handset to compliment their professional lives, the company said the OmniaPRO B7610 is “optimised for both work and play”, with access to Microsoft Office Suite and “PC-like internet browsing”.

The final entry in the range is the OmniaLITE B7300, which is “designed for users who demand an easy smartphone interface with full support of multimedia, internet and business features.”

Samsung added the simplicity of the device was another of its major plus points and the inclusion of a 3D multimedia player means “enhanced entertainment experiences” for users.

The original Omnia was launched last year and was part of the company’s Black Label range of phones. Should the firm be so keen to continue the brand?
