Those looking for a low-cost alternative to the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic or even the Apple iPhone 3G S may like to consider some of the thoughts offered on one of the former’s other touchscreen devices.
In an article for Cnet this week, the Finnish manufacturer’s 5530 model was analysed by Frank Lewis, who suggested that although the model has some problems, it is generally a solid device available at a decent price.
As the gadget is without features such as 3G connectivity and GPS services, the writer explained that for some it will not make the grade. However, he went on to heap praise on some of the other areas it punches above its weight.
Mr Lewis noted that the Nokia 5530 is another in the XpressMusic range of touchscreen audio-focused phones that can be picked up for around £140 on pay-as-you-go and £15 on monthly contracts.
He added that this makes it one of the cheapest to offer a full touch-enabled interface and said that although this is "no match for that of the iPhone or HTC Hero", the on board music credentials may be enough to address the balance for buyers.
These include an integrated media player and supplied headphones that use a 3.5mm universal socket. Also featured is a 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash that offers standard shots.
Mr Lewis concluded: "The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is far from a perfect handset … But, given the phone’s low price … we think the handset offers a good user experience for the money."
Other options for those looking at a music phone include Sony Ericsson’s dedicated Walkman range.
