Gamers may be interested to hear some news this week that could cause them to consider trading up to a new more play-focused handset – such as the N-Gage enabled Nokia N97.
It has been announced that possibly one of the most eagerly-anticipated movies of the year is to have a title tied into its launch that will be a downloadable application for a number of handsets.
Based on director James Cameron’s return to non-documentary cinema, Avatar tells the story of human interference on a fantastical world and one man’s journey into the bosom of the indigenous population of the planet Pandora.
Now, it has emerged that Gameloft has secured the rights to bring a mobile game to the market that it hopes will be able to muster the level of interest that the Titanic helmer’s upcoming movie has done recently.
However, commenting on the news, company senior vice-president Gonzague de Vallois seemed confident about the project. “With a riveting storyline and compelling characterisation, Avatar: the Mobile Game will raise the bar for the mobile game user experience.”
Gameloft has entered the agreement to develop and publish the tie-in with Fox Mobile Entertainment and will likely endeavour to try and capture some of the visionary landscapes and characters which appear in the film.
Last Friday was declared Avatar Day across the globe by Cameron and movie goers lucky enough to score free tickets were treated to exclusive scenes from the flick at cinemas all over the world.
Elsewhere this week, mobile gaming expert Robin Boyar said in an interview with gigaom this week that although the sector had come on a great deal in the last five years, it could soon see a shift towards developing more content for women.
