A new option has been launched for consumers on a budget looking to take advantage of O2’s range of mobile phones – which currently includes the Nokia 5220.

The network operator – which also counts the Apple iPhone 3G S among its line of exclusives – has announced a revised pay-as-you-go tariff that incorporates a number of complementary facilities at "a very limited price".

O2 explained that Text & Web, which would usually provide people with freebies based on a £30 account credit, has been updated to offer the same extras for half the price.

This means subscribers who sign up between now and October 31st can expect unlimited web access and text messages when topping up by £15 or more on a monthly basis.

Jean-Michel Maltais, head of Pay & Go propositions at the company, explained the popularity of many web-related services meant there was a market for a simple tariff where people don’t have to worry about running low on credit.

"Our customers are connecting with people more and more through social networks and need constant access to online sites, so we’ve built Text & Web with them in mind," he added. "They also get a rich text allowance which offers great value."

In addition, the new package will provide those who credit their account by between £10 and £14 with unlimited texts for use in the UK. After the October 31st deadline, this will change to 300 messages.

Other handsets available on O2’s pay-as-you-go packages include Samsung’s
C3050, the Nokia 2630, LG’s KS360 and the Sony Ericsson W395.
