A new article has highlighted the Sony Ericsson W508 as a handset which may be particularly appealing to those looking for a music-focused handset capable of delivering high-quality audio.

Irene Mickaiel writes in a recent piece for Cnet that the device is one of the latest entries into the manufacturer’s Walkman range of branded gadgets, noting that although it does little to stand out from its siblings, the integrated media player performs exceptionally well.

Joining devices like the Sony Ericsson W595 and 995 – both of which were launched this year – she explains that using the music functions of the W508 is “a joy” and the overall smoothness and clarity of the playback is something that will appeal to many.

The included headphones are also highlighted for performing well and the reviewer admits to having been won over by the phone to the stage where it caught her off-guard.

“At one point, to our embarrassment, we thought the sound was playing through the headphones when the boss told us to keep it down. [Little] did we realise it was playing through the speakers,” Ms Mickaiel states.

She concludes by saying the Sony Ericsson W508 is “a very good mp3 player with a few games”.

In other news, the HTC Touch Pro2 was singled out in a recent review for Mobile Burn, not for its multimedia facilities – which were found to be somewhat lacking – but as a business-focused alternative to the Apple iPhone 3G.

“It has a wonderful screen that is actually bigger than the iPhone’s and [a] much higher resolution, too,” it said.
