The Samsung M7600 Beat DJ has been described as a handset that boasts some unusual features that have limited appeal, but one which impresses in other areas.

In an article for Trusted Reviews this week, Sandra Vogel looked at the music-focussed device and commented that the South Korean manufacturer has continued to provide “some great mobile phones” lately.

She said the range Samsung now has is comprehensive enough to target those who might be in the market for a unit that offers professional features, smartphone specifications or a high-performance camera.

However, Ms Vogel went on to say that the M7600 Beat DJ is none of these and is instead a clear attempt to bring a little of its innovation to the music-focussed mobile sector.

The dimensions of the phone were praised for their “nicely rounded corners” and “severe curves”, while the 400 x 240 pixel touchscreen was highlighted as bright and sharp enough to be “eminently readable”.

It was noted, however, that one of the key features of the device – a music editing suite that allows users to scratch and mix tracks – may not be popular with buyers as a long-term facility.

“Samsung’s music editing [and] scratching idea is quite well implemented, but it is a bit of a five-minute wonder. Battery life is too short for a music centric handset, too, but the quirky physical design will win it some friends,” Ms Vogel concluded.

A recent review for Cnet by Flora Graham said the Samsung M7600 Beat DJ offered a “lovely screen, unique appearance and a good range of features”.
