The new Samsung Omnia HD has been described as offering “superb credentials” that include a host of multimedia facilities and a large, clear screen to display them on.

In an article for Trusted Reviews, Sandra Vogel looks at the device – which also goes by the name of the i8910 – and said although it is not the first to boast an eight-megapixel camera, it is one of the more interesting ones.

One reason for this is the South Korean manufacturer’s inclusion of a 3.7-inch touchscreen panel that operates with a 360 x 640 pixel resolution and also comes equipped with the latest AMOLED technology.

Ms Vogel explains that this makes the screen “clear, sharp and very readable in most situations”, adding that when used to navigate, the Omnia HD’s user interface proves “capacitive and responsive”.

Running on version five of the Symbian S60 platform, the device is praised for the way in which the various applications integrate. Full 7.2Mbps download speeds and access to quad-band GSM is also highlighted.

Although Ms Vogel notes that very often people can be won over by the megapixel count associated with modern cameraphones, the Samsung Omnia HD is one that should not disappoint.

“There are some negative points with the i8910 HD such as the one-piece headset, no Google Maps and slightly unwieldy size. But the good points far outweigh the bad,” she concludes.

Samsung also announced three new devices in the range last week, the Omnia II, Omnia Pro and Omnia Lite.
