By all accounts it seems last Friday was a successful day for the latest version of the Apple iPhone 3G.
Announced at the manufacturer’s most recent Worldwide Developers Conference, the device hit the stores at 08:02 BST on June 19th and according to O2 – the handset’s exclusive UK carrier – outsold its predecessor.
It was noted the Apple iPhone 3G S got off to an “incredible start” in comparison to the figures generated by the original device – taking twice as many purchases by lunchtime.
In addition, the firm explained if sales continued to boom in this way it could expect to beat the 2008 figure buy 50 per cent and added the black version of the phone was outselling its white sibling by three to one.
“Footfall to our shops this morning was ten times higher than an average day and our online site saw a 150 per cent increase in traffic,” O2 said. “More stock is being sent out to stores over the weekend with a further delivery early next week.”
The day also saw some favourable reviews for Apple’s latest family member, with Cnet UK’s Flora Graham posting an article that said the improvements on the original iPhone 3G had helped the device remain “king of gadgets”.
Rapid performance and connection to 3G, HSDPA and Wi-Fi services were just some of the features pointed out and Ms Graham said although there was no FM radio, podcast subscription facilities and a rather basic camera, the new model would be popular.
