After what seems like an endless wait it looks like HTC Hero customers on Orange will finally get the Android 2.1 (Eclair) update for their swish phones. The update process should be relatively seamless as it will happen over the air so you shouldn’t have to do too much. And if you are as lazy as we are that can only be a good thing.
Orange, on their newsroom site, reported that “we apologise for the delay in Orange Hero customers receiving their Eclair update. Testing the update across European markets took longer than anticipated. However we hope to have final approval by the end of the week and Orange handsets should start updating from next week”.
But according to some users on social network noise fest Twitter, the update has already started rolling out. So if you are lucky enough to own a HTC Hero and you’re on the big Orange network, keep a sharp eye on the status bar at the top of your screen where you should soon see some sort of update notification.
The update itself will arrive in two parts. You should note however that the second part of the update will wipe all of your precious data from your handset so just make sure you back up all of your data before accepting the update. Our mates at Recombu have some handy hints about how you can do this so click here for details.
