The Toshiba TG01 is a handset that may appeal to consumers looking for a new smartphone that is practical and adaptable, one expert has suggested.

In an article for Trusted Reviews this week, Edward Chester looked at the recently-launched device and noted that in addition to being “truly unique”, it is speedy and versatile.

“We’ve never seen webpages rendered faster on a mobile device,” he explained, adding: “Some will find it to be the perfect hardware platform to tweak to their own needs.”

The phone runs using the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system and comes equipped with a 4.1-inch screen, 3G connectivity and a 3.2-megapixel camera – although the article did point out that the lack of a flash is something of a disappointment.

Rating the gadget with seven marks out of a possible ten, the Toshiba TG01 is also noted as a lightweight and stylish option that could even be the next to give the Apple iPhone 3G a run for its money.

The model was unveiled earlier this month as one of the latest additions to the Orange line of products and can be purchased on its pay-monthly option.

However, those who do want to stick with Apple’s innovative smartphone may be interested to hear that its exclusive carrier in the UK is offering SMS access to Twitter.

O2 customers can now receive the latest status of their followers’ for free and can update their own for the price of a normal text. Consumers are asked only to try not to exceed a 600 text-per-month limit.
