The number of picture messages sent on Christmas Day is forecast to top one million, according to Orange.
Last year’s festive season set records for the amounts of text and images given from one mobile phone user to another – but 2009 will see even more sent and received, the network predicts.
Some 100 million regular SMS messages were sent on December 25th 2008, meaning this year it is likely to be even higher, it also said.
In addition, New Year’s Eve is expected to involve another 120 million being shared by mobile phone users across the country, beating the total of 106 million sent as January 1st of this year rolled in.
But what will you send to your loved ones? Whether it is that awful jumper you have been given, a full Christmas stocking, your brightest tree yet or the giant feast prepared for lunch, then it is a good idea to make sure your contract or pay-as-you-go tariff is suitable for your needs.
Of course, depending on the handset you want, there are literally thousands of deals on the market that could be worth considering.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Vodafone will make its supply of Apple iPhones available from January 14th.
Those who pre-order could benefit from a range of special offers, such as free Vodafone-to-Vodafone calls for the length of their initial contract.
