UK Rim BlackBerrys to get eBay appSmartphone users who also happen to be savvy shoppers may be interested in the news that Research in Motion’s (Rim’s) UK BlackBerrys are now able to download the free eBay application.

According to Rim, it has teamed up with the online market place to offer the program to the mobile phones in Britain, as well as in Spain, Italy, France, the US, Australia and Germany.

So what does the owner get from the app?

Well, it gives people the chance to search and bid for and then buy items much in the same way as they would when on the eBay website.

In addition, the BlackBerry Push Service means users will be notified of when they have been outbid, won something, or are watching a listing that is close to ending.

The app also has features such as Add to Calendar, My eBay, Member Messages and Daily Deals.

Commenting on the announcement, Steve Yankovich, vice-president of platform business solutions and mobile at eBay, said: “We are thrilled to be extending eBay’s mobile presence to millions of BlackBerry smartphone users around the globe.

“When developing any mobile application, we take into account the unique features and advantages of the device to better meet our customers’ needs. With BlackBerry’s Push Service and multi-tasking technology, eBay buyers and sellers are able to stay up-to-date on great deals and sales.”

I personally reckon BlackBerry are a bit slow to release this app – especially when Apple iPhone owners have had access to an eBay program for some time now.
