Vodafone to offer Nokia N900Mobile network Vodafone has announced that it is to become the first in the UK to offer the Nokia N900 handset in the new year.

The company noted this week that the mobile computer, which was originally tipped to launch in the UK last month, is set to make its British debut in January following delays in the autumn.

Consumers who are keen to get their hands on the N900 – which is currently also available in North America, Russia, Europe and the Middle East – can register to receive updates on the Vodafone website ahead of the launch.

The handset comes complete with Wi-Fi capability, as well as a 32GB memory, a Qwerty keyboard, a global positioning system, a 3.5-inch touchscreen and a five-megapixel camera.

Last month, Tech Radar reported that Vodafone rival O2 has "no plans as yet" to stock the handset and 3 is also "unlikely" to feature the phone, as sim cards for the gadget are not compatible with the network – although this could be fixed with a software update.

Nokia Nseries vice-president Jose-Luis Martinez commented earlier this year that those who have a passion for technology may find the new gadget "very compelling".

The mobile manufacturer recently announced plans to release two 3G slider phones within the first three months of 2009.

According to an official statement from the company, the Nokia 7230 and the Nokia 6700 slide have been "optimised for socialising".

Do you plan to buy a phone in the new year? It appears the choices are endless when it comes to handsets!
